Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan Agree on Operation of Cross-Border Trade Zone
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On the sidelines of official events in Tashkent, Uzbekistan’s Minister of Investments, Industry, and Trade, Laziz Kudratov, and Turkmenistan’s Minister of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations, Nazardurdy Agakhanov, discussed the practical aspects of operating the Uzbek-Turkmen Cross-Border Trade Zone.
The parties agreed on the legal framework for the joint trade center, which will serve as a platform to expand mutual trade, promote national products, and develop entrepreneurship on both sides of the border.
The total area of the center is six hectares — three hectares each on the Uzbek and Turkmen sides. If necessary, the territory can be expanded under a separate international agreement.
Citizens of both countries will be able to enter and exit the zone without visas, ensuring free movement and ease of doing business.
The opening of the cross-border trade zone creates new opportunities for entrepreneurs, allowing them to utilize shared infrastructure and simplified procedures, marking an important step in the development of transboundary trade and the strengthening of bilateral cooperation.
