Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan Agree on a “Roadmap” for Interparliamentary Cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 23 July 2025, an online meeting was held between the Interparliamentary Group of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, chaired by Anvar Tuychiev, Head of the Senate Committee on Agricultural, Water Management Affairs and Ecology.

During the dialogue, it was emphasized that the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan is rooted in centuries-old ties of friendship, good-neighborliness, and close trade, economic, and humanitarian relations. These relations are built on principles of mutual respect and trust, as reflected in the countries’ aligned positions on key regional and international issues.

Particular attention was given to the role of the political will of the two countries’ leaders, which serves as a solid foundation for the continued development of the Uzbek-Turkmen dialogue. In this context, the meeting between President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov during the “Central Asia–European Union” summit held in Samarkand from 3 to 5 April this year was highlighted as a significant event in bilateral relations.

Participants underscored the growing importance of parliamentary diplomacy as a tool for strengthening mutual understanding and cooperation between the two nations.

Discussions focused on deepening interparliamentary dialogue, establishing sustainable contacts between legislative bodies, and enhancing the effectiveness of friendship groups within parliaments.

Special attention was also given to the joint parliamentary oversight of the implementation of agreements reached at the highest level.

As a result of the meeting, both sides agreed to develop a “roadmap” for upcoming bilateral initiatives and outlined new potential areas for interparliamentary cooperation.
