Uzbekistan and Turkey to sign 35 documents for US$3.5 billion

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan and Turkey today will sign 35 documents for US$3.5 billion within the framework of the Uzbek-Turkish business forum in Istanbul. This was stated by the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on Wednesday after talks with the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The head of Uzbekistan said that it is planned to sign 35 documents for US$3.5 billion at the Uzbek-Turkish business forum in Istanbul on Thursday.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted that Turkey is a reliable and important partner for Uzbekistan. “We especially appreciate it,” he added.

In his turn, the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan called Uzbekistan as a strategic country in all respects. The head of Turkey noted that Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s visit to Turkey is a historic event.

At the same time, Recep Tayyip Erdogan noted that the level of trade between Uzbekistan and Turkey does not match the potential of the countries.

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev said that in the first nine months of 2017, the trade turnover between the two countries increased by almost 30%. He added: “This is very little.”

“We must set high goals,” he said. In his view, the countries should bring the level of mutual trade to US$5-6 billion. In 2016, the volume of mutual trade between Uzbekistan and Turkey was US$1.2 billion.
