Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 29 July 2020, within the framework of the visit of the government delegation of Uzbekistan to Turkey, Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov held talks with members of the Great National Assembly of the Republic of Turkey J. Yilmaz and L. Elvan.
During the negotiations, the course of the current cooperation in attracting leading Turkish experts and consultants in order to ensure the comprehensive socio-economic development of Uzbekistan was considered. It was noted that practical cooperation has already begun in this direction: in June, ex-vice-president of Turkish Airlines O. Sivrikaya, a world-class expert in the field of civil aviation, was hired as a consultant to further improve the activities of the national air carrier Uzbekistan Airways, where he currently holds the post of Deputy Chairman of the Management Board. Also, with the assistance of the Turkish side, a branch of the Turkish University of Economics and Technology (TOBB) has been opened in Uzbekistan, where the admission of students will begin this year.
They also discussed prospects for further expanding cooperation to enhance the development of a number of priority sectors of the economy of Uzbekistan - construction, agriculture, energy, textile industry and the production of building materials.
The prospects of studying and applying the Turkish experience in carrying out institutional reforms, consistently improving the investment climate, introducing effective mechanisms for attracting large foreign investors and fighting corruption were emphasized. In this context, specific areas for further joint work were identified, including assessing the impact of changes in legislation on the investment climate of the Republic, optimization of technical regulations and processes in the construction sector, as well as practical measures to improve Uzbekistan’s position in international rankings.
The parties came to an agreement to attract Turkish experts to create an electronic crowdsourcing platform in Uzbekistan. The platform will enable foreign and domestic entrepreneurs implementing projects in the Republic to report emerging problems online, and to the relevant state structures to promptly respond to incoming requests.
In addition, opportunities for interaction were considered within the framework of the implementation of a number of investment projects with the participation of Turkish and Uzbek companies and the attraction of new potential investors in such areas as agriculture, textile, leather and footwear and automotive industries, production of building materials.
An agreement was also reached on the organization of advanced training programs and field training for employees of state bodies of Uzbekistan.
