Uzbekistan and the United States to Discuss Simplifying Visa Procedures

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan and the United States plan to discuss simplifying visa procedures for citizens and business representatives, Deputy Minister of Transport Jasurbek Choriyev said.

According to him, with the expansion of Uzbekistan Airways’ fleet through new Boeing aircraft, an increase in the number of flights to U.S. cities is also expected.

In an interview with the “Uzbekistan 24” TV channel, Jasurbek Choriyev emphasized that President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s visit to the United States creates important preconditions for liberalizing the visa regime, developing tourism, and expanding direct air connections.

“The visit of our president is a key step. The head of state opens the main doors for cooperation. When the leaders of the two countries agree on strategic directions, including transport, it becomes easier for us to implement joint initiatives. We have many tasks ahead, and the U.S. has experience that is worth leveraging, while we also have something to offer,” Choriyev noted.

He recalled the contract signed with Boeing Corporation for the delivery of 22 wide-body Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft.

These aircraft will allow Uzbekistan Airways to significantly expand the geography of long-haul flights, including new destinations in the Americas. Currently, the airline operates direct flights between Tashkent and New York.

According to the deputy minister, agreements signed between the two countries will promote tourism development, strengthen business ties, and increase mutual travel.

“Recently, a decision was made to introduce a 30-day visa-free regime for U.S. citizens starting January 1. The possibility of simplifying travel for our citizens and business representatives is also being considered,” Choriyev added.

Currently, the visa-free regime applies to U.S. tourists over the age of 55. According to the presidential decree of May 15 on measures to increase tourist flows, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been instructed to begin negotiations with the U.S. side regarding the easing of visa requirements for Uzbek citizens traveling to the United States.
