Uzbekistan and the United Kingdom Agree on Joint Trainings for Intellectual Property Rights Protection

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A delegation from the Republic of Uzbekistan, led by Deputy Minister of Justice Muzraf Ikramov, met in London with Deputy Directors of the UK Department for Business and Trade, Luke Jessop and Rhiannon Kempson, as well as representatives from the IP Federation and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Group.

The UK Department for Business and Trade representatives highly appreciated Uzbekistan’s completion of aligning its national legislation with the key requirements of one of the World Trade Organization’s major agreements — the Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS).

Both sides emphasized that effective implementation of the newly introduced mechanisms requires enhancing the knowledge and qualifications of specialists. In this context, an agreement was reached to conduct joint seminars and training sessions for representatives of judicial and law enforcement agencies, focusing on the seizure and confiscation of counterfeit products and assessing damages caused by intellectual property violations.

Additionally, the Uzbek delegation familiarized themselves with the activities of the IP Federation, studied practices for protecting modern intellectual property objects, and discussed cooperation with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Group on intellectual property rights protection in Uzbekistan.
