Uzbekistan and the UAE Discuss Digitalization, AI, and Customs Personnel Training

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Within the framework of the World Customs Organization’s Technology Conference in Abu Dhabi, Akmalkhoja Mavlonov, Chairman of the State Customs Committee of Uzbekistan, held a bilateral meeting with Ahmad Abdullah bin Lahey Al-Falasi, head of the Federal Customs Authority of the United Arab Emirates.

The parties exchanged cordial congratulations on the recently celebrated “International Customs Day,” with the Uzbek delegation noting the high level of organization of the conference.

It was emphasized that in recent years, open, trusting, and pragmatic dialogue between the heads of Uzbekistan and the UAE has elevated bilateral relations to the level of strategic partnership. In particular, the significant growth of foreign trade turnover—from US$389 million in 2024 to US$871 million in 2025—has contributed to intensified practical cooperation in the customs sphere.

During the meeting, the sides discussed issues related to digitalization, the introduction of artificial intelligence elements, and the training of specialists in data analysis.

They also exchanged views on priority areas of cooperation discussed back in 2022, which remain relevant today. Special attention was paid to cooperation in the field of canine units. Uzbekistan informed that the 7th Global Canine Forum of the World Customs Organization will be held in the country in September this year, and UAE customs representatives are invited to participate. During the forum, the idea of signing a cooperation agreement in the field of canine units between the two countries was proposed.

The parties also discussed mutual recognition of authorized economic operators.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides confirmed their readiness to further strengthen cooperation, noting that such bilateral contacts contribute not only to the development of customs authorities but also to the deepening of friendly relations between the two states.
