Uzbekistan and the OSCE Strengthen Cooperation on the Protection of Victims of Human Trafficking
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Chairwoman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis and Head of the National Commission on Combating Human Trafficking and Ensuring Decent Work, Tanzila Narbaeva, held a meeting with a delegation led by Kari Johnstone, the OSCE Special Representative and Co-ordinator for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings.
The meeting focused on issues of bilateral cooperation with the OSCE in the prevention of human trafficking, the protection of victims, and the promotion of decent work standards.
Particular attention was given to the practical outcomes of joint initiatives, including the implementation of projects aimed at improving mechanisms for identifying and supporting victims of human trafficking.
Kari Johnstone highly praised the systemic reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan and the country’s efforts to enhance national legislation in this field.
She emphasized the importance of harmonising national approaches with international standards, strengthening a victim-centred approach, and expanding preventive measures.
The discussion also addressed challenges related to recruitment and fraud carried out through digital platforms.
The parties noted the significance of the international training held in Tashkent on the use of technology in combating human trafficking and underlined the need to integrate the key issues raised and initiatives proposed during the event into the plans and programmes of the National Commission.
