Uzbekistan and Tajikistan Discuss Development of International Road Transport

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 22–23 December, a meeting of the Joint Commission on the Development of International Road Transport between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan was held in Samarkand.

The negotiations were chaired by First Deputy Minister of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan Mahkamjon Omarov and Deputy Minister of Transport of the Republic of Tajikistan Shoista Saidmurodzoda. The parties discussed key aspects of further deepening bilateral cooperation in the field of road transport.

During the meeting, special attention was paid to increasing the capacity of the “Jartepa” (Uzbekistan) — “Sarazm” (Tajikistan) border crossing point, transitioning to an electronic system of exchange permit forms for international road transport, increasing the quota of permits, as well as organizing pilot shipments along the multimodal transport corridor “China — Tajikistan — Uzbekistan.”

As a result of the discussions, the parties identified priority tasks and a set of practical measures aimed at further developing transport cooperation and improving the efficiency of international road transport between the two countries.
