Uzbekistan and Sweden Discuss Development of Migration Cooperation in Stockholm

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In Stockholm, a delegation from Uzbekistan led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Olimjon Abdullaev held talks with Swedish Minister for Migration Johan Forssell.

The discussions focused on the prospects for expanding Uzbek–Swedish cooperation in the field of migration. Johan Forssell noted that his visit to Uzbekistan on 24–25 June of this year, during which a Joint Declaration on Cooperation in the Field of Migration was signed, had significantly changed his perception of the country.

The Swedish minister emphasized that the large-scale reforms underway in Uzbekistan — aimed at promoting legal migration — are creating favorable conditions for building a sustainable and mutually beneficial partnership between the two countries. In this context, the Swedish side expressed its readiness to finalize negotiations on the Intergovernmental Agreement on Migration and Mobility.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to establishing a long-term partnership that includes the implementation of joint projects to promote legal migration, protect the rights and interests of labor migrants, and strengthen the institutional capacity of Uzbekistan’s migration authorities.
