Uzbekistan and Spain sign memorandum on cooperation in standardization at IEC session in India

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In India, within the framework of the 88th General Assembly of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Uzbek Agency for Technical Regulation and the Spanish Association for Standardization, Dunyo news agency reported.

During the talks, the parties highlighted the growing cooperation between Uzbekistan and Spain in various areas and stressed the importance of elevating interaction between their standardization bodies to a new level. Discussions focused on harmonizing national standards with international ones, fostering partnerships within global structures, training qualified specialists, and improving their professional skills.

An agreement was also reached to cooperate on Uzbekistan’s accession to the World Trade Organization, including strengthening institutional capacity and enhancing the competencies of specialists.

In addition, the Uzbek delegation held negotiations with representatives of the Japanese Industrial Standards Committee.

The sides discussed prospects for cooperation in the field of standardization and technical regulation, attracting grants and technical assistance from JETRO and JICA, introducing innovative solutions, and expanding joint projects.

Akmal Jumanazarov, Director of the Uzbek Agency for Technical Regulation, emphasized that adopting Japanese experience would be an important factor in bringing the national standardization system to a higher level. For her part, Atsuko Saruhashi, Deputy Head of the Japanese Industrial Standards Committee, expressed interest in deepening cooperation with Uzbekistan, supported reforms in this area, and affirmed readiness to assist in developing quality infrastructure and training specialists.

As a result of the meetings, the sides reached an agreement to expand comprehensive cooperation in all areas related to the standardization system and quality infrastructure.
