Uzbekistan and Spain Sign Memorandum on Agriculture
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbek Minister of Agriculture Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov, on a working visit to Spain, met with Spanish Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Luis Planas Puchades during the 122nd session of the International Olive Council.
The discussions focused on implementing innovations in agriculture, applying efficient technologies under conditions of water scarcity, and exchanging experience between the two countries.
Minister Abdurakhmonov highlighted Uzbekistan’s potential in horticulture, vegetable cultivation, and cherry production, emphasizing the need for varieties resistant to drought, soil salinity, and low temperatures.
The Spanish side expressed willingness to share expertise, including precision irrigation technologies, CRISPR-based breeding, agricultural insurance, and the development of educational and scientific infrastructure in the agricultural sector.
The parties also emphasized the importance of cooperating with Spanish experts on developing agricultural cooperatives, modernizing processing facilities, and improving export infrastructure. Investment opportunities for Spanish businesses in Uzbekistan’s olive product sector were also discussed.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to expand inter-institutional cooperation, implement joint initiatives within the framework of official visits, and develop strategic partnership directions. The negotiations were finalized with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at elevating agricultural cooperation between Uzbekistan and Spain to a new level.
