Uzbekistan and South Korea Discuss Green Economy Transition Projects
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A meeting was held at the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan with representatives of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), focusing on accelerating the country’s commitments under the Paris Agreement and supporting joint initiatives with South Korea on the “Article 6 Support Activities” project.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance Umid Abidhadjaev, a delegation led by KOICA Deputy Director Park Songmin, GGGI Representative in Uzbekistan Stella Seun Yong Lee, and representatives of the Korean private sector.
Discussions focused on the next steps for the US$6.5 million agreement between the Ministry of Economy and Finance and GGGI, aimed at supporting Uzbekistan’s transition to a green economy.
Deputy Minister Umid Abidhadjaev emphasized that the project represents a significant stage in implementing advanced and energy-efficient technologies from South Korea in a pilot format in Uzbekistan.
During the meeting, GGGI representative Suyoung Park gave a presentation highlighting the project’s objectives, components, key directions, and expected results. The parties agreed on further cooperation under the project and approved a plan of upcoming activities.
