Uzbekistan and Singapore Agree to Launch Program to Boost SEZ Efficiency

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 14 August, an Uzbek delegation led by Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade Laziz Kudratov held talks in Singapore with the leadership of Singapore Cooperation Enterprise, Sembcorp Industries, and Wilmar International.

The meetings were held in a constructive atmosphere, with both sides identifying concrete areas of cooperation.

An agreement was reached to develop a program aimed at enhancing the efficiency of Uzbekistan’s special economic zones (SEZs). The program envisions the introduction of a “one-stop shop” mechanism, unified management standards, a CRM platform, modern infrastructure, and a stronger focus on attracting strategic investment.

The parties also considered an initiative to establish a pilot SEZ modeled on Singapore’s experience, with a joint expert group to be formed for its development.

Additionally, measures were agreed upon to implement an agro-industrial project in Urtachirchik district of Tashkent region, which is expected to create 1,800 jobs.

The visit reaffirmed the strong interest of Singaporean companies in long-term cooperation and opened up new opportunities for investment and joint projects.
