Uzbekistan and Serbia Discuss Expanding Cooperation in the Healthcare Sector

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A videoconference meeting was held between Deputy Minister of Health of Uzbekistan Elmira Basitkhanova and State Secretary of the Ministry of Health of Serbia Ivana Stašević-Karličić, according to the Dunyo news agency.

The discussions were also attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan to Serbia, Oybek Shakhavdinov.

The meeting took place within the framework of the practical implementation of agreements reached following the official visit of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić to Uzbekistan in October 2025.

The parties reviewed the current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation in the healthcare sector, as well as opportunities to expand interaction between relevant government agencies and medical institutions of the two countries.

The Serbian side confirmed its readiness to begin the practical implementation of the Agreement on Cooperation in the Provision of Medical Services, signed at the highest level. In accordance with the agreement, 12 citizens of Uzbekistan are expected to receive free medical treatment in leading healthcare institutions in Serbia in 2026.

During the talks, both sides reaffirmed their mutual interest in further developing cooperation, exchanging professional experience, and strengthening direct contacts between medical and healthcare specialists.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties expressed their readiness to continue joint work and maintain regular dialogue across all agreed areas of cooperation.
