Uzbekistan and Serbia Agree to Expand Cooperation in Agriculture
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on the sidelines of the Second United Nations Food Systems Summit Stocktaking Moment (UNFSS+4), Uzbekistan’s Minister of Agriculture Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov held a series of meetings with representatives of international organizations and government delegations. One of the key discussions took place with the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Water Management of the Republic of Serbia.
Minister Abdurakhmonov outlined the ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan aimed at modernizing agriculture, combating soil degradation, ensuring the rational use of water resources, and strengthening food security.
The Serbian side highlighted pressing challenges in its own agricultural sector, particularly in seed production and grain cultivation — including corn — and expressed readiness to cooperate in the exchange of modern agrotechnologies.
The parties discussed prospects for sharing information, fostering contacts between universities, agricultural scientists, and research centers, and pursuing joint efforts in agricultural processing and export.
Minister Abdurakhmonov invited Serbian companies to visit Uzbekistan to explore potential joint projects and practical cooperation. An introductory visit was also proposed to provide first-hand insights into the country’s opportunities and capacities.
