Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia Discuss Development of Interparliamentary and Investment Cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 22 December, the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Tanzila Narbayeva, held a meeting with His Excellency Yousef Al Otaibi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Republic of Uzbekistan.

During the meeting, it was noted that in recent years, political dialogue between Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia has significantly intensified, with mutual visits at the highest and senior levels becoming a regular practice.

It was emphasized that the state visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Saudi Arabia, as well as contacts within the framework of international and regional summits, have contributed to strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries.

The parties exchanged views on the development of interparliamentary cooperation, highlighting the importance of further activating the activities of friendship groups established in the parliaments of Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia, expanding experience sharing, and organizing reciprocal visits.

Particular attention was paid to the practical results of trade, economic, and investment cooperation. In particular, the significant expansion of the investment project portfolio and the implementation of large joint initiatives in the energy sector, including renewable energy projects, were noted.

It was underlined that cultural and humanitarian cooperation, joint initiatives in healthcare, and the favorable conditions created for organizing pilgrimages for Hajj and Umrah contribute to strengthening friendship and mutual understanding between the peoples of the two countries.

In this context, the role of the Center for Islamic Civilization, established in Uzbekistan, in studying and promoting Islamic cultural heritage was especially highlighted. The parties exchanged views on prospects for further cooperation with the Center, including scientific research and hosting international conferences.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides expressed satisfaction with the steady development of Uzbek-Saudi relations across all areas, including interparliamentary interaction, and reaffirmed their readiness to continue joint efforts to further strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation.
