Uzbekistan and Russia hold a regular meeting of the IGC on economic cooperation
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan and Russia held a regular meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation in Tashkent on 7 March.
The delegations of two countries discussed issues of cooperation between the two countries in the economy, health, and agro-industry.
The sides reviewed the implementation of the agreements reached during the state visit to Uzbekistan of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin in October 2018.
It was noted that Uzbekistan and Russia are interested in long-term cooperation in the field of agriculture.
The parties exchanged views on the elimination of problems that are an obstacle to the expansion of exports of fruits and vegetables.
Russia expressed readiness to build agricultural wholesale distribution centers in the country.
It was emphasized that this would help to increase the volume of fruits and vegetables supplied to Russia several times.
In 2018, the volume of mutual trade between Uzbekistan and Russia grew by 20 percent and amounted to almost US$6 billion. At the same time, the volume of trade between the countries reached US$877 million in January-February 2019, while export volume increased by 70 percent.
Currently, according to the Uzbek-Russian cooperation program, 54 projects are being actively funded. This includes 34 investment projects worth US$600 million.
