Uzbekistan and Russia Expand Cooperation in Environmental Protection

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On the sidelines of the CITES CoP20 conference in Samarkand, a meeting took place between Alisher Salomov, Advisor to the Minister of Ecology of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and Tatyana Kuznetsova, Deputy Head of the Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resource Use of the Russian Federation (Rosprirodnadzor).

The parties discussed current areas of Uzbek-Russian cooperation in environmental protection, paying particular attention to the exchange of experience, the implementation of modern environmental technologies, and the improvement of ecological safety mechanisms.

Alisher Salomov emphasized Uzbekistan’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Russian environmental agencies, including in the areas of sustainable natural resource management and enhancing the efficiency of environmental monitoring and control.

A separate item on the agenda was the protection of water bodies and sustainable water use—areas of strategic importance to both countries.

The Uzbek side expressed interest in studying Russian approaches and practices applied in water resource management and the prevention of their degradation.

The meeting was held in a constructive atmosphere, which allowed the parties to reach mutual understanding on a number of promising initiatives.

Following the discussions, both sides confirmed their intention to maintain regular dialogue and expand cooperation in international environmental protection and natural resource management.
