Uzbekistan and Russia Agree to Strengthen Cooperation Between Ombudsman Institutions

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 29 July 2025, First Deputy Chairman of the Senate Sodiq Safoyev met with the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Russian Federation, Tatyana Moskalkova.

The parties discussed prospects for expanding cooperation between Uzbekistan and Russia, particularly in the areas of sharing best practices on human rights protection, strengthening the principles of the rule of law, and developing civil society institutions.

Welcoming the guest, Sodiq Safoyev emphasized that under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Uzbekistan has been paying special attention to ensuring the rights and freedoms of its citizens, with an increasing role of the parliament and the Ombudsman’s institution.

Tatyana Moskalkova, in turn, praised the reforms carried out in Uzbekistan in recent years in the field of human rights protection, strengthening social justice, and raising public awareness of rights. She expressed readiness to further develop cooperation in this area.

Following the meeting, both sides confirmed their intention to continue practical cooperation in strengthening ties in the field of human rights, including through the ombudsman institutions and interparliamentary contacts.
