Uzbekistan and Portugal Expand Agricultural Cooperation
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A delegation from the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan, led by Department Head Jamoliddin Babakhanov, is currently on a working visit to Portugal to implement measures for expanding cooperation in the agrarian sector.
Notably, agreements have been reached with the company Kiangle AI to utilize artificial intelligence technologies for analyzing and forecasting crop yields, assessing the impact of climate change on agriculture, and studying market dynamics. As part of this partnership, a pilot project valued at approximately US$100,000 is planned to introduce AI into crop production and livestock farming.
Furthermore, an agreement was signed with Azinor Group to develop the export and import of agricultural products. It is projected that by 2026–2027, the volume of mutual trade will reach US$5 million, facilitating an increase in Uzbek exports and expanding access to new types of Portuguese goods.
Additional cooperation agreements were secured with several Portuguese firms, including Companhia das Frutas, Importações Nunes, Sogevinus Fine Wines, Tavares & Tavares Lda, and Frutas Lusa. These partnerships focus on developing export-import operations, specifically the supply of dried fruits and processed products from Uzbekistan, alongside the import of citrus fruits, olive oil, and olive products from Portugal.
The parties expressed their readiness to implement joint projects of mutual interest, creating favorable conditions for strengthening trade ties and diversifying agricultural cooperation between the two nations.
