Uzbekistan and Pakistan Sign Comprehensive Package of Agreements

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Following the first meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council between Uzbekistan and Pakistan, the leaders of the two countries — President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif — signed a joint declaration affirming a course toward deepening bilateral relations.

During the meeting, the sides exchanged a series of key documents covering a wide range of cooperation areas. Among them are the 2026–2028 Foreign Ministries Interaction Program, agreements on establishing the Uzbekistan–Pakistan Business Council and Interregional Forum, and a protocol on expanding the list of goods under preferential trade.

Significant attention was given to economic and industrial cooperation: agreements were signed in the fields of port services, mining and geology, agriculture and agrarian research, textile and garment industries, and digital and information technologies. Measures on pharmaceutical control, radiation and nuclear safety, environmental protection, and emergency management were also formalized.

The cooperation extends to social and cultural spheres: documents were signed on joint activities in sports, culture, preservation and promotion of the Baburid heritage, and the establishment of a Uzbekistan–Pakistan Expert Council. Special focus was placed on law and security, including agreements on anti-corruption, combating illegal drug and psychotropic substance trafficking, and transfer of sentenced persons for continued serving of punishments.

Trade and agricultural cooperation also advanced: the parties agreed on a protocol on phytosanitary requirements for the export of fresh apples, figs, lemons, and chili peppers from Uzbekistan to Pakistan. Additionally, a roadmap between the defense ministries of both countries was signed.

The scope of agreements includes education and research: documents were signed to foster cooperation between strategic institutions and universities in Tashkent and Peshawar, as well as between the local administrations of Termez and Peshawar, and Samarkand and Islamabad, aimed at developing scientific, educational, and interregional collaboration.

The signing of these documents marks a new stage in Uzbekistan–Pakistan relations, establishing a comprehensive platform for economic, cultural, educational, and strategic ties in the medium term.
