Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 19 August 2020, political consultations were held between the ministries of foreign affairs of Uzbekistan and Oman in the format of a video conference.
The delegations of the parties were headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Furkat Sidikov and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman Sheikh Khalifa bin Ali bin Isa al-Harisi.
Within the framework of the next round of inter-MFA political consultations, topical aspects of Uzbek-Omani relations, as well as interaction within international structures, were discussed.
As it was emphasized, the priority direction in strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation is to build up trade, economic, investment, transport and communication ties, the current indicators of which do not correspond to the existing potential of the parties. In this context, the importance of the implementation of agreements on the transport corridor Uzbekistan - Turkmenistan - Iran - Oman, the establishment of the Uzbek-Omani Business Council, the establishment of direct contacts between financial institutions and business circles of the two countries was emphasized.
During the conversation, special attention was paid to the issues of expanding cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian sphere. Interest was expressed in the implementation of joint projects in the research and educational fields.
The parties also exchanged views on improving the legal framework of bilateral cooperation, agreed to form a working group with the participation of representatives of the involved ministries and departments of the two countries to promptly resolve issues in this direction.
Other topical issues of the Uzbek-Omani agenda were also discussed at the talks.
