Uzbekistan and Malaysia plan to jointly make films and publish books

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Malaysia organized a ZOOM meeting with representatives of the World Society for the Study, Preservation and Promotion of the Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan and representatives of the Museum of Islamic Art of Malaysia.

The conference was attended by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan to Malaysia Ravshan Usmanov, Second Secretary of the Embassy Elbek Saidov, Chief Curator of the Museum of Islamic Art of Malaysia Dr. Heba Nayel Barakat, Deputy Chief Curator Ms. Nurul Iman Rusli, Head of Records and Collections Ms. Rekha Verma, Chairman of the Board of the World Society for the Study, Preservation and Promotion of the Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan Firdavs Abdukhalikov, scientific consultant of the project "Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan in the Collections of the World" Dr. Elmira Gul and project coordinator Ekaterina Soboleva.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan to Malaysia Ravshan Usmanov delivered a welcoming speech. He noted the friendly nature of relations between the two countries, including in the cultural and humanitarian sphere, as well as the need to strengthen cooperation between the scientific and cultural institutions of the two countries.

Representatives of the World Society informed the Malaysian colleagues that the project "Cultural heritage of Uzbekistan in the collections of the world" is the brainchild of New Uzbekistan and the tasks of preserving, studying and popularizing cultural heritage have been elevated in Uzbekistan to the rank of state policy.

Representatives of the Imam Al Bukhari Foundation and the Museum of Islamic Art of Malaysia took the initiative to publish a book-album dedicated to the cultural heritage of Uzbekistan at the Museum of Islamic Art of Malaysia. Also, scientific representatives of Malaysia supported the proposal of the World Society to shoot two films - a documentary and a feature film - about the outstanding Hadith scholar Imam al-Bukhari. The tapes will be filmed by Uzbekistan and Malaysia. In addition, the Malaysian Museum of Islamic Art will participate in the facsimile project "114 Qurans", which will feature outstanding sacred manuscripts.

The next step of the specialists will be compiling a detailed catalog of the collections of Uzbekistan stored in the museum, as well as publishing a special album about artifacts and objects of material and artistic culture stored in the Museum of Islamic Art.

“The compilation of such a catalog, summarizing the entire heritage stored in the expositions and funds of our museum, will be a colossal achievement for us. We’ve never done this kind of work of fully cataloging our country collections before, and it’s going to be a great experience. I am sure that the study of our collections will reveal many more pearls of the unique heritage of the land of Uzbekistan,” said Dr. Heba Nayel Barakat.

It is planned that the implemented projects can be presented in the second half of this year, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and Malaysia.

Due to the fact that from 1 April, Malaysia completely opens the borders for foreign citizens, subject to their vaccination, the Ambassador of Uzbekistan Ravshan Usmanov during the Zoom conference expressed the hope that the next meeting could be held in the “face to face” format.
