Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Malaysia, Karomiddin Gadoev, met with Abu Bakar Yusuf, CEO of the Malaysian External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), the IA “Dunyo” reports.

The discussions focused on prospects for a new intergovernmental preferential trade agreement aimed at increasing mutual trade volumes between the two countries.

MATRADE’s head highlighted Central Asia’s strategic role in diversifying Malaysia’s external markets and praised Uzbekistan’s potential as a regional hub.

Special attention was given to organizing Uzbekistan’s national pavilion at the International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) scheduled for September 2026 in Kuala Lumpur, which will promote Uzbek food products abroad.

The Malaysian side also expressed willingness to consider hosting MIHAS in Tashkent in 2027, noting Uzbekistan’s large halal market and strategic significance in Central Asia.

Following the meeting, both sides agreed to conduct multi-sectoral trade and investment missions led by MATRADE in 2026. These events will serve as a platform to strengthen bilateral trade and expand the investment presence of Malaysian companies in Uzbekistan.
