Uzbekistan and Latvia Discuss Expansion of Cooperation in Agriculture and Organic Farming
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Uzbekistan Alisher Shukurov held a working meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Latvia to Uzbekistan, Girts Jaunzems, during which prospects for expanding bilateral cooperation in the agricultural sector were discussed.
Shukurov provided the Latvian diplomat with a detailed overview of ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan concerning land and water resource management and farmer support, emphasizing the importance of exchanging technologies and experience with European partners.
The Latvian ambassador, in turn, shared his country’s achievements in environmentally friendly production, organic farming, and food security, noting Latvia’s readiness to provide expert support and share practical experience with Uzbekistan.
Particular attention during the meeting was given to joint research initiatives, the introduction of modern irrigation technologies, and the development of livestock and horticulture. The parties discussed creating conditions for Latvian companies to implement investment projects in fruit and vegetable processing and to access export markets.
Moreover, emphasis was placed on the development of cooperatives and small farms, where Latvia’s experience in efficient resource use and collective product delivery to markets is considered especially valuable for Uzbekistan.
At the conclusion of the discussions, plans were outlined to expand cooperation in agricultural education and professional development, including exchanges between educational institutions of the two countries and improving the skills of agricultural workers.
