Uzbekistan and Latvia Discuss Expanding Cooperation in Transport, Logistics, and Trade

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 2 October 2025, a meeting took place at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan between Alisher Shaykhov, advisor to the Chamber’s chairman, and Attis Švinka, Minister of Transport of the Republic of Latvia.

The talks focused on expanding cooperation in transport and logistics, including increasing cargo volumes through the ports of Liepāja, Riga, and Ventspils, as well as via railway routes, which would facilitate greater export of Uzbek products to European and Scandinavian markets.

The Latvian side expressed readiness to provide practical assistance in certification and adapting products to European standards, expected to help Uzbek companies save time and costs when entering new markets.

The parties also discussed prospects for joint projects in the chemical, petrochemical, fruit and vegetable, dried fruit, electrical engineering, and furniture industries.

Additional discussions covered direct flights between Tashkent and Riga, development of e-commerce, and using Latvia as a regional hub for online trade.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides confirmed their intention to strengthen business ties, expand export potential, and open new opportunities for collaboration.
