Uzbekistan and Korea Agree on Establishment of Private Seed Production Cluster
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In the Republic of Korea, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Uzbekistan Jamshid Abduzukhurov met with Hyoli Cho, Financial and Commercial Director of GW International, to discuss the creation of a private seed production cluster in Uzbekistan.
The project envisions the cultivation, sorting, and modern packaging of high-yield, export-oriented F1 vegetable hybrids, including tomatoes, sweet peppers, watermelons, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, and eggplants, developed by Korean scientists. Following the discussions, a memorandum of cooperation was signed.
The delegation also visited the JADAM Institute of Organic Agriculture, where they discussed the introduction of organic farming technologies and scientific research collaboration. Another memorandum was signed, providing for the training of Uzbek farms in the use of highly accessible agrotechnologies.
Additionally, during a meeting with the leadership of the Korea Rural Community Corporation (KRC), a preliminary agreement was reached on the phased implementation of Korean standards in the seedling production chain in Uzbekistan.
The system, in which each seedling is assigned a “history” with a QR code, will allow tracking of plant origin, improve product quality, and enhance transparency in seed production. The implementation of these initiatives is expected to become a significant step toward increasing the export potential of Uzbekistan’s agricultural sector.
