Uzbekistan and Jordan Agree on Cooperation in Agriculture and Livestock

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A delegation from Uzbekistan’s agricultural sector, led by Deputy Minister of Agriculture Jamshid Abduzukhurov, is currently on a working visit to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. As part of the trip, a meeting was held with Jordan’s Minister of Agriculture, Abdulhalim Saeb.

During the talks, the two sides discussed new areas of cooperation in the agricultural sector and reached a number of agreements.

Special attention was given to localizing in Uzbekistan tomato varieties resistant to salinity and water shortages, as well as wheat and barley varieties. Trials are planned on test fields in Uzbekistan, with the subsequent introduction of new agro-technologies based on the results.

The parties also discussed livestock development, in particular the localization of Awassi sheep. Initially, Jordan will provide Uzbekistan with four sheep and frozen semen for herd reproduction.

An agreement was reached on joint exchange of genetic resources of agricultural crops and cooperation between genetic banks, as well as on considering Uzbekistan’s accession to the international treaty on plant genetic resources.

In addition, the importance of expanding trade and economic ties was emphasized.

Under the agreements, an agricultural and food products fair will be organized under the brand “Made in Uzbekistan.” The event will attract Jordan’s leading import companies, entrepreneurs, and investors, contributing to the growth of bilateral trade.
