Uzbekistan and Japan to Build Data Center Powered by Small Modular Reactors

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzatom Agency, together with the Japanese company Muroosystems Corporation, has begun implementing a unique international project to establish a data center fully powered by electricity generated from small modular reactors (SMRs), the agency said in a statement.

The planned energy consumption of the facility is 50 MW, which will be entirely supplied by SMRs. This approach allows for the creation of a stable and predictable demand for nuclear electricity, enhancing the efficiency of nuclear power plant capacities.

A key feature of the project is the integration of nuclear energy and digital infrastructure: the data center will be powered exclusively by SMRs, making this initiative the first of its kind in the world and setting a new standard for energy-intensive IT facilities.

The project opens opportunities for the development of sustainable digital solutions, improves the reliability of power supply, and introduces innovative models for the use of nuclear energy. Its implementation demonstrates the potential of SMRs as an efficient and stable energy source for high-demand technological facilities.

The collaboration between Uzatom and Muroosystems Corporation reflects a high level of international technological partnership and lays the foundation for scaling similar projects in the future.
