Uzbekistan and Japan Discuss Implementation of Advanced Waste Processing Technologies
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A meeting was held at the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan with representatives of the Japanese company Ishigaki Company Ltd., specializing in the production of industrial filtration and dewatering equipment.
The parties discussed prospects for cooperation in waste management and the potential implementation of modern Japanese waste processing and recycling technologies.
Representatives of Ishigaki Company Ltd. noted that the company has over 67 years of experience in filtration, water treatment, and waste dewatering, and has carried out international environmental projects.
The Japanese side expressed interest in participating in initiatives aimed at improving environmental sustainability and quality of life in Uzbekistan and stated its readiness to conduct a research and assessment mission to analyze the potential for establishing joint production facilities.
Uzbekistan’s Minister of Ecology, Aziz Abduhakimov, emphasized that the country is actively implementing projects to develop its waste management system and introduce green technologies. In particular, Waste-to-Energy enterprises are being developed, a “green tariff” mechanism is in place, projects for the reclamation of uranium mines are being implemented in cooperation with the EU, and initiatives for hazardous waste disposal and industrial wastewater treatment are underway with the participation of international partners.
The minister proposed considering the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Agency for Waste Management and Circular Economy Development and Ishigaki Company Ltd., which would include:
Exchange of specialists;
Conducting environmental audits;
Joint scientific research programs;
Adaptation of Japanese technologies to the conditions of Uzbekistan.
Following the negotiations, the parties agreed to conduct preliminary studies and expert assessments for the subsequent implementation of a pilot project.
Participants expressed confidence that the development of this partnership will be an important step in strengthening circular economy principles, expanding the use of environmentally safe technologies, and advancing Uzbekistan’s path toward sustainable development.
