Uzbekistan and Italy Strengthen Interregional Ties and Partnership
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Hokim of Ferghana Region, Khairullo Bozorov, held a meeting with a delegation led by Italy’s Special Representative for Central Asia, Federico Failla. The parties discussed prospects for further strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation between Uzbekistan and Italy.
The regional leader noted that the strategic partnership between the two countries continues to develop steadily, with bilateral relations becoming increasingly multifaceted. Special attention was given to the recently signed Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between Uzbekistan and the European Union, as well as the first Central Asia–Italy Summit held in Astana on 30 May 2025, which have become important milestones in the history of bilateral engagement.
Bozorov emphasized that the talks between President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, held in May in Samarkand, provided a strong impetus for further strengthening political dialogue and economic partnership.
During an open and constructive exchange of views, Federico Failla noted that relations between Uzbekistan and Italy are entering a qualitatively new level. He highly appreciated the reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan, as well as efforts to strengthen good-neighborly relations in Central Asia.
The Italian side paid particular attention to education, highlighting its key role in sustainable regional development and human capital formation. In this context, it was proposed to expand cooperation in the educational sphere.
Bozorov reported that the regional administration and the Italian Embassy have already begun practical work to deepen interregional ties, including the organization of business forums, increasing trade volumes, developing investment projects, and hosting international exhibitions.
The parties also discussed opportunities for sharing experiences and implementing joint initiatives in innovative manufacturing, crafts, tourism, and education. Prospects for cooperation in the textile, engineering, leather, and furniture industries were considered in detail.
At the conclusion of the meeting, an agreement was reached to further expand bilateral engagement and to intensify direct contacts between the regions of both countries.
