Uzbekistan and IFC Accelerate Development of Electric Vehicle and “Green” Technology Sector

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 11 December, representatives of Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Economy and Finance held a working meeting with a delegation from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), led by Sakshi Varma, IFC’s Project Manager for the development of “green buildings” and the electric vehicle sector in Uzbekistan.

The meeting focused on practical steps to implement the cooperation agreement between the IFC and Uzbekistan, signed on 23 October 2024, under the World Bank Group framework.

Key topics included the development of a “roadmap” for the electric vehicle sector, the formation of an electric transport market, expansion of opportunities for local manufacturers, and the creation of favorable conditions for consumers.

The parties also discussed streamlining procedures for allocating land for charging stations, improving their operational efficiency, involving the private sector in infrastructure development, attracting investment, and enhancing regulatory frameworks for the sector.

IFC representatives confirmed their readiness to support Uzbekistan’s strategy for transitioning to a “green” economy, emphasizing the crucial role of the electric vehicle sector in improving the country’s environmental sustainability and energy efficiency.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to continue close collaboration on implementing the roadmap, improving the legal and regulatory framework, aligning technical regulations with international standards, and preparing new investment projects for the development of electric transport in Uzbekistan.
