Uzbekistan and Huawei Deepen Cooperation in Digital Technologies

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In a continued effort to strengthen the partnership between the Ministry of Digital Technologies of the Republic of Uzbekistan and China’s Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., a new round of bilateral talks has taken place.

The meeting was attended by Sherzod Shermatov, Minister of Digital Technologies of Uzbekistan, and Tony Bao, Vice President of Huawei and President for Government Affairs and Communications.

The two sides discussed priority areas of cooperation, including the development of telecommunications and mobile infrastructure, strengthening Uzbekistan’s position as a regional IT hub, expanding digital services exports, and enhancing the country’s competitiveness in IT outsourcing.

One of the key outcomes of the meeting was the agreement between Huawei and JSC “Uzbektelecom” to implement joint projects aimed at modernizing digital infrastructure.

It was noted that in recent years, several large-scale digital initiatives have been successfully implemented in Uzbekistan in partnership with Huawei. Among them is the launch of a Remote Services Center, which enabled the export of over USD 10 million in IT services to more than 20 countries in 2024, as well as the creation of 300 new jobs.

Special attention was given to Huawei’s contribution to the development of human capital and digital skills.

Initiatives such as “Seeds for the Future” and “ICT Academy,” which focus on training young IT specialists, are actively ongoing. In 2024, Uzbekistan celebrated the 10th anniversary of the “Seeds for the Future” program, during which a team of students won the silver award at the international “Tech4Good” competition. Additionally, 12 students took part in an educational tour to Shenzhen and Shanghai, and two teams represented Uzbekistan in the regional “ICT Competition” held in Saudi Arabia.

The meeting also highlighted the pilot demonstration of 5.5G technology, conducted during “ICT Week Uzbekistan 2024,” which was one of the key highlights of the country’s digital agenda.

The importance of the analytical report “Uzbekistan Digital Economy Overview and Vision 2030,” prepared in 2024 by Huawei in collaboration with the Center for Digital Economic Research and the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), was also emphasized. The report has served as a key reference for shaping Uzbekistan’s digital development strategy for the coming years.

The two sides also reviewed the outcomes of the “Tech Carnival 2025” international forum held in May in Tashkent. The event brought together over 1,000 participants, including representatives of leading tech companies, international experts, and industry professionals. Forum discussions covered a wide range of key topics — from artificial intelligence and cloud solutions to sustainable “green” digital transformation.

This meeting once again reaffirmed the high level of strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Huawei, which plays a vital role in modernizing the country’s digital infrastructure and creating favorable conditions for unlocking the potential of the younger generation in the field of high technologies.
