Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 31 October 2019, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Great Britain Timothy Torlot signed an agreement of partnership and cooperation between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, the agreement is a comprehensive document aimed at maintaining the existing legal framework and developing relations between the parties in the political, trade, economic, industrial, transport, agricultural, energy, scientific, technical, financial and other fields.
This international document helps to ensure the duration of the contractual relations of Uzbek-British cooperation after Britain left the European Union and further develop comprehensive practical cooperation in all areas.
The agreement shall enter into force on the first day of the month following the date of receipt of the last written notification of the parties on the implementation of domestic procedures.
The document also envisages the possibility of provisional application of the agreement until its entry into force.
Welcoming the signing of the agreement, Foreign Office Minister for Europe Christopher Pincher said:
I’m pleased that the United Kingdom has today signed its first partnership agreement with a Central Asian country, underlining our close ties with Uzbekistan and securing long-term certainty for British businesses and consumers.
This deal highlights our shared ambitions for a broader and deeper political and security relationship and sets out future opportunities for cooperation in diverse areas such as trade, environmental protection and the protection of human rights.
