Uzbekistan and Georgia discuss expanding cooperation with Poti Port

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 23 December, Uzbekistan’s Minister of Transport Ilhom Makhkamov met with Tamaz Chkhikvishvili, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Poti New Terminals Consortium, and the Consortium’s President David Chikwaidze.

During the meeting, Makhkamov underscored the strategic importance of the North–South and East–West international transport corridors for Uzbekistan, particularly the Middle Corridor running through Georgia. He highlighted the relevance of deepening cooperation with the Port of Poti as a key component of this route.

David Chikwaidze praised the cooperation between Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Transport and Georgia’s Ministry of Sustainable Development and Infrastructure, confirming the Consortium’s readiness to move towards the practical implementation of strategic agreements between the ministries.

Tamaz Chkhikvishvili noted that the Georgian side is demonstrating strong interest in expanding cooperation with Uzbek freight shippers and the business community.

Following the talks, Makhkamov stressed the need to create favourable conditions for Uzbek transport operators and proposed organising a field visit for representatives of the Ministry of Transport, Uzbekistan Railways (Uzbekiston temir yullari), and the business community to explore the Consortium’s practical capabilities in detail.
