Uzbekistan and Finnish Water Forum Sign Declaration on Cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Finnish Water Forum (FWF) have signed a Declaration of Understanding aimed at developing bilateral cooperation in the fields of water management and eco-technologies.

The agreement builds upon the joint statement previously signed following the talks between the Presidents of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and Finland, Alexander Stubb, which outlined cooperation in areas such as waste management and air quality protection.

Under the new declaration, both sides agreed to expand collaboration in several key areas, including:

• Integrated management and protection of water resources;
• Application of sustainable and energy-efficient water supply and wastewater treatment technologies;
• Development of automated online systems for environmental, hydrometeorological, and agrometeorological monitoring;
• Modernization and construction of water infrastructure and ensuring the safety of hydraulic structures;
• Implementation of rational water use mechanisms and effective resource management;
• Protection and restoration of groundwater sources and their monitoring;
• Exchange of experience and advanced technologies in water conservation and digital water management;
• Joint scientific research and technical cooperation.

The document also provides for knowledge exchange and innovation, the organization of joint conferences, seminars, and training programs, and the development of pilot projects to strengthen business and investment ties between Uzbek and Finnish companies operating in the environmental and water technology sectors.

The signing of this declaration marks an important step in enhancing cooperation between Uzbekistan and Finland in environmental protection, sustainable resource management, climate resilience, and the introduction of smart ecological monitoring technologies.
