Uzbekistan and Finland Open a New Chapter in Strategic Partnership
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 31 October 2025, Tashkent hosted the official visit of the President of the Republic of Finland, Alexander Stubb, at the invitation of the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
Following the talks, the two heads of state signed a Joint Statement marking a new stage in bilateral cooperation.
The leaders discussed key areas of collaboration, ranging from political and economic relations to innovation, education, and environmental protection.
It was emphasized that since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992, ties between the two countries have developed on the basis of mutual respect and trust, and the agreements reached provide a solid foundation for long-term partnership.
A central outcome of the visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on the creation of the Uzbek-Finnish Business Council, which will serve as a platform for direct interaction between the business communities of both countries.
The parties also expressed support for the activities of the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation, noting positive dynamics in trade and investment relations.
Both heads of state affirmed their readiness to expand collaboration in green technologies, digital innovations, and education. The Finnish side highly appreciated Uzbekistan’s initiatives in sustainable development and environmental protection and confirmed its support for the country’s efforts to join the World Trade Organization.
Special attention was given to education and academic exchange, including participation in Erasmus+ programs, as well as the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.
Finland expressed gratitude for Uzbekistan’s active role in strengthening peace and stability in Central Asia and supported the organization of the Central Asia – European Union Summit in Samarkand.
The parties also confirmed their readiness to cooperate within the frameworks of the OSCE and the United Nations, emphasizing their commitment to international law and the peaceful resolution of conflicts.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President Alexander Stubb expressed confidence that the agreements reached will open a new chapter in the history of Uzbek-Finnish relations, based on mutual understanding, partnership, and shared values.
