Uzbekistan and Finland discuss cooperation in the field of public education

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 18 February 2019, Deputy Minister of Public Education of Uzbekistan Sarvar Babakhodjaev received a delegation from Finland.

The delegation included representatives of the JAMK Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences headed by Heikki Pusa, global educational services manager. The Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Finland to the Republic of Uzbekistan Maria Liivala also took part in this meeting.

Welcoming the guests, Sarvar Babakhodjaev noted that the Ministry of Public Education of Uzbekistan is interested in establishing cooperation with Finland, whose educational system is considered one of the best in the world.

The Deputy Minister of Public Education voiced promising areas of cooperation. In particular, it was noted that the Uzbek side is interested in studying the Finnish experience in preparation and retraining of teachers, creating curricula and methodologies and creating a school in the Finnish school system.

In turn, Heikki Pusa spoke about the activities of the JAMK University, in particular, experience of the educational institution in Kazakhstan. It was noted that the JAMK University also advised the Nazarbayev schools. The university also trains teachers and school managers.

Sarvar Babakhodjaev added that Presidential schools will be opened in Uzbekistan from the new school year, which will train talented young people. Taking into account the experience of the JAMK University in a neighboring country, it was proposed to consider the possibility of cooperation in development of curricula, the creation of a system for receiving children and talent management.

Also, the Uzbek side suggested to the Finnish side to consider the possibility of creating a pedagogical university in Uzbekistan and cooperation in retraining of employees of the public education system.
