Uzbekistan and EU hold session of Cooperation Council

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A delegation of Uzbekistan led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan participated in the 11th session of the Cooperation Council between the European Union (EU) and the Republic of Uzbekistan in Brussels on 17 March 2014.

The press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan said European Union was represented by the delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece Evangelos Venizelos. Currently, Greece is holding presidency in the EU.

The session considered wide scale of issues on bilateral agenda and implementation of agreements, reached within the visit of the President Karimov to Brussels in January 2011 and negotiations at high level.

The sides affirmed similarity or identity of positions and assessments on almost all issues discussed, including the EU Strategy for Central Asia.

It was noted that Uzbekistan and EU are interested in further developing mutual beneficial partnership on long-term bases and ready to develop cooperation in political-democratic, economic, investment, cultural-humanitarian and other areas.

The sides also exchanged opinion on situation in Afghanistan, other actual international and regional issues.
