Uzbekistan and Erbil Agree to Establish Joint Business Council
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 24 December, the Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan, Davron Vakhabov, held a meeting with the President of the Erbil Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Gaylan Hadji Said, during an official working visit to the Republic of Iraq.
Erbil, located in the Kurdistan Autonomous Region of Iraq, is one of the oldest cities in the Middle East and simultaneously a rapidly developing economic, trade, and cultural hub in the region, with a population exceeding 3 million people.
The meeting was organized to further strengthen bilateral economic ties, develop new business initiatives, and elevate trade and industrial relations between Uzbekistan and Iraq—particularly with the Kurdistan region—to a qualitatively new level.
During the negotiations, the parties discussed prospects for expanding mutually beneficial cooperation between the business communities of both countries, organizing business visits and joint events, developing industrial cooperation, and implementing new investment projects.
As a result of the meeting, the parties signed a memorandum of understanding for the first time and agreed to establish the Uzbek-Erbil Business Council.
The agreements reached are expected to open new opportunities for entrepreneurs from Uzbekistan and Iraq and provide an additional impetus to the development of mutually beneficial trade and economic partnership.
