Uzbekistan and EITI Discuss Expanding Cooperation in Extractive Industry Transparency

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A meeting was held at the Ministry of Mining and Geology of Uzbekistan between First Deputy Minister F. Hamidova and a delegation led by Helen Clark, Chair of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI).

The international delegation presented information about EITI’s activities, the stages and benefits of implementing its standards, and emphasized the value of Uzbekistan joining the initiative within the framework of ongoing reforms.

The Ministry highlighted recent industry reforms, including improvements to the legislative framework, increased transparency, attracting investment by enhancing the investment climate, and implementing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards.

During their visit, the EITI delegation will also meet with representatives of other ministries and agencies to further discuss opportunities for cooperation.
