Uzbekistan and Coursera Launch New Initiatives in Digital Education
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — During an official visit to the United States, Uzbekistan’s Minister of Digital Technologies, Sherzod Shermatov, held talks with the leadership of Coursera, one of the world’s largest online learning platforms.
The discussions focused on developing IT education in Uzbekistan, implementing international certification standards, and expanding access to global educational resources.
The parties explored joint initiatives to create a national IT education ranking system, improve certification mechanisms, and strengthen the digital learning ecosystem.
It was highlighted that Coursera plans to translate 3,000 courses into Uzbek by the end of 2025. This initiative will significantly expand opportunities for Uzbek citizens to gain quality education and acquire in-demand digital skills.
Currently, more than 1.5 million people in Uzbekistan have access to Coursera, which collaborates with leading global tech companies — Google, AWS, Nvidia, Meta, and Microsoft — in developing and delivering educational programs.
During the talks, both sides emphasized the importance of further improving IT education in Uzbekistan, including facilitating graduate employment and enhancing cooperation with the industrial sector.
