Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 27 November 2025, Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance Umid Abidhadjaev met with Christopher Duggan, Ambassador of Canada to Uzbekistan.

During the meeting, practical areas of bilateral cooperation were discussed, including the green economy, digitalization, investment, and new opportunities in international trade.

The parties reviewed public participation in the budget process through the “Initiative Budget” project, the role of youth in the economy, the development of digital services and FinTech, achievements in education and demographics, as well as pilot projects in energy efficiency and the green economy. Particular attention was paid to technological cooperation with Canada and the creation of a joint working group to implement practical initiatives.

Ambassador Christopher Duggan highly praised Uzbekistan’s extensive reforms, IT park infrastructure, and digital ecosystem, highlighting opportunities for Canadian companies in energy efficiency, green technologies, innovative construction, and carbon neutrality.

The sides emphasized the importance of joint projects for testing energy-efficient technologies, including heat pumps, eco-friendly refrigerators, and “zero-emission” buildings, with the potential for nationwide scaling.

At the conclusion of the meeting, an initiative was proposed to establish a joint working group to match the needs and capabilities of companies and experts from both countries, develop joint projects, and implement pilot initiatives.

Canada also reaffirmed its support for Uzbekistan’s accession to the World Trade Organization and the continuation of dialogue on mutually beneficial cooperation areas.
