Uzbekistan and Broad Institute Discuss Cooperation in Biomedical Research and Pharmaceuticals
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Director of the Agency for the Development of the Pharmaceutical Industry Abdulla Azizov held a meeting with Michael Cristiano, Business Director of the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard.
Founded in 2004 as a collaboration between MIT and Harvard University, the Broad Institute is now one of the world’s largest biomedical research centers, specializing in genomics, bioinformatics, molecular biology, and the development of innovative treatments.
During the meeting, representatives of the institute provided a detailed overview of Broad Institute’s activities, while the Uzbek side briefed their counterparts on reforms in the pharmaceutical industry, achievements in life sciences, and forward-looking development plans.
The parties agreed to cooperate in several key areas, including participation of Uzbek scientists in the “Visiting Scientist” program, joint work in clinical research, organization of internships and knowledge exchange programs, as well as exploring the possibility of establishing a branch of the Broad Institute in Uzbekistan.
