Uzbekistan and Belgium hold political consultations

The delegations were headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Abdujabar Abduvakhitov and the Director General for Bilateral Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Belgium Anik Van Calster.

The sides exchanged views on the entire agenda of bilateral relations, as well as on international and regional issues.

The parties called for expanding inter-parliamentary contacts, assistance in establishing direct contacts between state and public organizations, economic business structures of the two countries.

During the consideration of the prospects for strengthening ties in the political sphere, special attention was paid to the upcoming high-level contacts.

The Belgian side was informed about the results of the major international conferences held in Uzbekistan "Central Asia: One Past and a Common Future, Cooperation for Sustainable Development and Mutual Prosperity" (Samarkand, on 10-11 November 2017) and conference on Afghanistan "The peace process, cooperation in the sphere of security and regional cooperation "(Tashkent, on 26-27 March 2018).

The Uzbek delegation reported on the support of the candidacy of Belgium for non-permanent members of the UN Security Council for the period 2019-2020.

The meeting also discussed the prospects for expanding interaction in the cultural and humanitarian sphere and intensifying exchanges between scientific and educational institutions.

On the same day, the delegation took part in a seminar "Central Asia and the European Union through the prism of international initiatives of Uzbekistan" at the Royal Institute of International Relations Egmont.

The day before, the delegation held talks in the Belgian Senate with the chairman of the Transboundary Cooperation Committee P. Van Den Drish. In addition, the delegation visited the company "Victor Buyck Steel Constructions", which organized a presentation of the project to build 23 pedestrian bridges in the city of Tashkent.

Embassy of Uzbekistan in Belgium hosted a presentation of trade, economic, investment and tourism potential of Uzbekistan. With the participation of a number of tourism companies, a forum on tourism was organized at the Press Club of Brussels.

During the presentations and exchange of views, representatives of local and Uzbek travel companies, media and business circles of Brussels exchanged views on issues of increasing the tourist flow to Uzbekistan.

In addition, meetings and substantive negotiations were held with the executive director of the Walloon Agency for Export and Investment (AWEX) Chantal DeBlu, the director of the export credit agency of Belgium "CREDENDO" Dirk Terevdev, the leadership of the European-Uzbek Business and Investment Council.
