Uzbekistan and ADB Preparing Projects Worth Over US$3 Billion in Key Sectors
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 18 November, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a delegation from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) led by its President Masato Kanda.
At the start of the meeting, the ADB head congratulated Uzbekistan on 30 years of strategic partnership and on assuming the Chairmanship of the ADB Board of Governors for 2025–2026.
The parties discussed deepening comprehensive cooperation within the framework of Uzbekistan’s ongoing socio-economic reform program. It was noted that the partnership has reached an unprecedented level: Uzbekistan remains ADB’s largest partner in the region, with a cumulative portfolio of joint projects exceeding US$15 billion. Additional initiatives worth over US$3 billion are being developed in green energy, transport, digital transformation, education, and other areas, with expanded use of non-sovereign financing mechanisms.
Special attention was given to preparations for the ADB Board of Governors’ annual meeting, scheduled for May 2026 in Samarkand. President Mirziyoyev advocated for signing an Expanded Strategic Partnership Program on the sidelines of the event, emphasizing the importance of infrastructure development, training of engineering and technical personnel, skills development for women and youth, poverty reduction programs, and support for the mortgage market and private sector growth.
The parties highlighted the significance of ADB’s participation in advancing major national and regional initiatives, primarily in transport, energy, and trade within Central Asia.
Masato Kanda praised the results of Uzbekistan’s large-scale reforms and reaffirmed the bank’s readiness to provide comprehensive support to the irreversible transformation program under the “New Uzbekistan” concept.
