Uzbekistan Airways Signs Largest Contract with Boeing for 22 787 Dreamliner Aircraft
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Boeing and Uzbekistan Airways have announced the largest order in the history of the national carrier: the country’s flagship airline plans to acquire up to 22 Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.
Under the deal, Uzbekistan Airways will purchase 14 787-9 aircraft with an option for an additional eight highly efficient planes. This move will significantly modernize the airline’s long-haul fleet and support approximately 35,000 jobs in the United States. The first deliveries are expected from 2031.
President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, participated in the ceremonial event on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly alongside the leadership of Boeing and Uzbekistan Airways to mark the signing of the long-term contract.
At the same time, Boeing and the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan signed a Memorandum of Cooperation aimed at developing the country’s aviation ecosystem.
“The Boeing 787 Dreamliner family has proven its key role in our long-haul operations,” emphasized Shukhrat Khudoykulov, Chairman of Uzbekistan Airways. “With this new contract, we are strengthening the position of our airline and our country as a leading aviation hub in Central Asia, providing passengers with greater access to international flights. This underscores our ambitions and strategic commitment to sustainable growth.”
Uzbekistan Airways became the first operator of the Boeing 787 in Central Asia and successfully operates the 787-8 model to connect markets in Europe, Asia, and the United States, including direct flights to New York. With increased capacity and range, the 787-9 model will enable the expansion of international routes, including to the U.S. and other long-haul destinations, amid growing demand for international travel.
“We highly value nearly 30 years of partnership with Uzbekistan Airways and will continue supporting their growth strategy, helping to connect the region with the world,” said Brad McMullen, Senior Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing at Boeing. “The combination of fuel efficiency and operational flexibility of the 787 Dreamliner will allow the airline to enter new markets and offer travelers access to the rich culture of Uzbekistan.”
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner family is known for its fuel efficiency, versatility, and enhanced passenger comfort, enabling airlines to open new routes and serve more destinations. Advanced aerodynamics, the use of composite materials, and innovative systems reduce fuel consumption by 25% compared to the aircraft being replaced.
