Uzbekistan adopts programme on preventing floods and mudflows

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Government of Uzbekistan with the resolution from 21 Jauary 2014 approved a programme on stabilized and secure pass of water from watercourses of Uzbekistan for 2014-2015 and up to 2020.

The resolution was adopted in order to improve efficiency of work on the stable and safe pass of floodwaters and mudflows from watercourses of Uzbekistan, protection of population and social facilities from the negative effects of floods and mudflows.

The resolution said that administrations of Andijan, Kashkadarya, Navoi, Namangan and Ferghana regions, as well as Ministries of Agriculture and Water Management of Uzbekistan realized concrete measures on implementing shore protection and other protection measures.

At the same time, the document said that Jizzakh, Surkhandarya and Tashkent regions did not carry out timely implementationof measures of shore protection and other protection measures.

According to the programme, some 10.44 billion soums will be directed at ensuring stabilized and secure pass of floods and mudflow via watercourses of the water objects, which are under management of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Management of Uzbekistan.

In the reporting period, over 30.042 billion soums will be directed to measures on preventing floods and mudflows at water objects, managed by the state bodies in the places.

The programme will be financed due to the state budget of Uzbekistan, own resources of ministries and departments, resources of the Republican Road Fund under the Ministry of Finance of Uzbekistan and other sources.
