Uzbekistan Adopts Chinese Poverty Reduction Experience
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan is increasingly drawing on the experience of the People’s Republic of China in combating poverty, with Chinese models already producing practical results across the country’s regions.
Ziedbek Yuldashev, head of the Tashkent Regional Department for Poverty Reduction and Employment, told Xinhua in an exclusive interview that recent years have seen effective institutional cooperation between Uzbekistan and China.
Within the framework of the China–Central Asia Summit, the China-Central Asia Center for Poverty Reduction Cooperation was established, promoting income growth through agriculture, cooperatives, and small business development.
Yuldashev emphasized that a key element of China’s success is its targeted approach. In Uzbekistan, pilot projects follow the “cooperative and production chain” model, tested in Fupin County, Shaanxi Province. On 20,000 hectares of forest land, medicinal and export-oriented crops such as saffron, lavender, and essential oil plants are cultivated.
About 10,000 households are involved, creating new jobs for rural residents and increasing the export potential of local products.
A critical aspect of the collaboration is knowledge exchange and studying China’s management approaches. The publication of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s book “Poverty Alleviation” in Uzbek has provided local specialists with practical insights into governance systems that place population welfare at the center of policy.
Yuldashev highlighted that China’s human-capital-focused modernization model, adapted to national conditions, serves as an example for developing countries, opening new economic opportunities for the Global South. He also noted that his personal observations during visits to China revealed disciplined, innovation-oriented communities and rapid socio-economic development, which he considers worthy of study and adaptation in Uzbekistan.
